Currently,our single stream technology is only capable of sorting plastic one and two containers out of the recycling stream. We have not developed technology to sort out the other plastics because manufacturers in the area are not using them as raw materials. In many instances, if manufacturers will take any plastics 3-7, they require massive quantities and the plastics 3 -7 to be completely dry and free from moisture. Meanwhile, the nature of curbsidecollection and processing moistens all materials.

We share your hope that some day more participation from consumers will drive a greater demand for other typesof recyclalbes, and Rumpke is always searching for ways to increase recycling participation and divert waste from the landfill.
