Executive Summary

Recommendations

  • Invest in a P&G sponsored Refill Village
  • Household/Personal products included in system
  • System uses a refillable pouch and aluminum container
  • Product refill automated at point-of-purchase
  • Consumer receives price incentive for each item refilled
  • Packaging communicates sustainable qualities of product

Rationale

We discovered that consumers want to lead more sustainable lives. By offering a brand-sponsored refill village, consumers are empowered to make more eco-friendly choices while continuing to depend on the products they trust. By utilizing a collapsible pouch and automated refill station, the consumer experiences convenience while saving money that would have ordinarily funded non-biodegradable, non-refillable plastics. The system also creates refill opportunities on the supply side; each product drum inside the refill station is refillable.

Project Goals

  • Identify the current perception of using refillable products
    • Home goods products
    • Food products
    • Requirements for each type of good
  • Identify the barriers 50+ consumers face when choosing a refillable product
  • Ideate possible solutions for producers and retailers
  • Identify the ecological impact of using refills in Cincinnati
